Acute pancreatitis, or how inflammation is spread throughout the body

Acute pancreatitis is an auto-digestive, inflammatory process of the pancreas which in some cases can place the patient’s life at risk. The reason is not the damage suffered by the pancreas but the way in which the inflammation is spread throughout the rest of the body until it results in multi-organ failure. We will be analysing what kind of signals are sent out from the pancreatic tissue, how they affect the other organs and how we can try to act on these messengers in order to try to halt this process.
